Wasted my time. People setting the rules for this bank are making it complicated

Chase refuses to honor checks written on its bank. CHASE said they had a policy which stated they would not cash checks written on their bank, but they could not hand me anything in writing at all. CHASE appears to be following an arbitrary banking policy which they cannot back in writing. In the past I never had any problem with downtown Lexington banks cashing a check written on their bank from my dad. It was only a $50 check! I was told by the manager, a woman of color, that I did not have proper ID. Jeez, although my KY driver's license had expired (I don't drive) it did have my photo. I presented a University of Kentucky Student Identification card from when I attended school with my photo AND my social security number on it. I had a health card issued in my name from the state of Kentucky...my Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield card...my American Express Debit/credit card...my current Kentucky Utilities bill with my name and address on it...and assorted other I.D. A bank should be obligated to cash a check drawn on one of its accounts even if the payee doesn't have an account relationship with the bank. A checking account reflects a demand deposit account because the account holder is writing checks that are payable on demand: this is subject to adequate funds being available in the account. Do payors ask about your banking relationships when they write you a check? Of course not! It shouldn't matter in the least that you don't have an account with Chase. But Chase said my identification did not meet their protocol and refused to cash a $50 birthday check my dad wrote on their bank. Jeez, one would think a now required state-issued health card, alone, would suffice for identification! I EVEN politely asked the surly manager to call my dad, then. She refused. All my identification assured Chase I was the one my dad had written the check to. The manager was unfriendly, cold, rude, smug, unwavering -- not the kind of clerk (let alone) manager that should represent a corporation of Chase's caliber. I reported the incident to my dad (whose bank account is probably larger than most folks). He is furious. Chase will hear from him. The first step in widespread banking failures remains a bank refusing to cash checks that have been written on their accounts. CHASE bank did that to me, today; and could show me no written policy for doing so...or a statement of when Chase began this policy. This type of business practice should be a red flag to all of you... DG Farnsworth
